In English- Indian licorice root

In hindi- gunchi, gunja.

Introduction- its preparation done by seeds .abrus precatorius is climbing plant a native of India but it has been introduced in to the western tropics and used as an eye remedy which discovered by Brazilian natives who gave it the name jequirity, it has small globular seeds which has a black scar colour with the black scar indicating where they were attached to the pods. These seeds are poisonous, the roots are used for licorice purpose and seeds are dried and used for necklaces and jewellery.

It is used in a nerve stimulant and is used in joint pains and paralysis.

It is also used in alopecia and skin diseases.

Clinically it is used in treatment of epithelioma, lupus, ulcers, and granular eyelids.

It cures headache.

It is very good in purulent diphtheritic swelling of the conjunctiva.

It has very good action in distressing lids with intense swelling spreading to the face, neck and chest.

It also cures granular ophthalmic and keratitis.

This patient has pain in extremities, high grade fever and malaise.

Skin- it has very good action in erysipelatous, tenderness of skin, lupus and indolent ulcers.
